Bears Hit Nine Three's, Top Devils 74-54

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team suffered its third straight loss, falling on the road at Ursinus, 74-54, on Saturday.

 

The team's traded leads in the opening minutes. Matt Donahue knocked-down a pair of three-pointers to put Ursinus in front, 12-10. They would stretch the margin to 19-10. First-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) converted four straight free throws to make the score 21-14 with 10:14 remaining in the first half.

 

A three-point play, a lay-up and two more free throws from Jon Ward put the Bears back up by double-figures at 28-14. The Bears would put together a 12-0 run to lead 33-14 with 6:26 remaining in the half.

 

The Devils came to life with an 8-0 run to cut the margin to 33-22 at the 3:03 mark. Ursinus would build the lead back to 14 at the end of the half as they hit 6-of-9 triples in the opening 20 minutes.

 

The Bears weren't quite as hot from the three-point line in the second half, but still finished 9-of-16 from long range.

 

Ward stretched the lead to 50-34 before Dickinson went on a run to pull within seven on a Logan Furr (Sharon, Mass./Beaver Country Day) three-pointer at the 12:51 mark.

 

The Devils trailed by seven at the 9:19 mark before a 13-0 run over the next five minutes put Ursinus in control, 69-49, with 4:24 remaining in the game.

 

The Bears would hit 5-of-8 free throws down the stretch for the final of 74-54. Ward led the Bears with 15 points, hitting 7-of-9 free throws.

 

Pat Vasturia added 14 points, shooting 4-of-6 from three-point land. Jesse Krasna and Donahue both finished with 13 on the night. Ursinus improves to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference.

 

First-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) led the Devils with 14 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. He went 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

 

Furr tallied 11 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers while senior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) reached double-figures with 10 points, adding six rebounds.

 

Junior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) added five points while Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) tallied three assists and a pair of steals.

 

The Devils slip to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They travel to Rochester for the St. John Fisher Tournament on December 29th. They will face Medialle in the first round match-up.
