MEADVILLE, Pa. – Wabash senior Derek Bailey scorched the nets for 32 points and the streaking Little Giants remained unscathed in conference play with a 61-47 victory over Allegheny on Saturday at the David V. Wise Center.

Playing their second game in 16 hours, the Gators have come out of the winter break with a much-improved effort at both ends of the floor, but a tough slate to open the second half of the season has impacted the team's ability to break an eight-game slide.

Second-year head coach Jim Driggs shuffled his lineup ahead of the weekend twin bill giving some of his first-year players extended minutes while sophomore forward Clark Tritto logged his first two career starts. The lineup changes have been positive, evidenced on Saturday by David DiBernardi's team-high 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Unfortunately, while the Gators did a pretty good job of neutralizing Wabash's high-octane attack, they had no answer for Bailey, who took over the game with a relentless effort from the outside. Bailey finished 12-of-22 from the field, but more importantly was 8-of-16 from beyond the arc. He canned six of his three's in the second half where the Little Giants outscored Allegheny, 34-26.

DiBernardi scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the opening half, helping to keep the Gators in contention. The Little Giants led 27-21 coming out of the break, but doubled their lead by ripping off the first eight points of the frame.

Trailing 35-21, the Gators were in serious danger of getting blown out, but instead responded with seven straight points of their own to carve into the Wabash lead. Devone McLeod capped the run with a steal and fast-break lay-up that left the Gators down, 35-28. The advantage hovered around 10 for the rest of the game as neither team would mount a significant run, although the Little Giants found breathing room down the stretch as Bailey knocked down a three and Brian Shelbourne added a jumper in the lane to give the visitors a game-high 16-point lead with 27 second left in regulation.

Each team had only one player in double figures. McLeod dropped in nine points while James Ness added eight points and six boards. In addition to leading the team in scoring, DiBernardi dished out a team-best three assists.

Wabash's bench was outscored 27-10, but that did little to affect the outcome. Weathering a tough shooting performance, leading scorer Aaron Zinnerman had five assists and a game-high 10 rebounds. Shelbourne also had five assists, while adding six points and five boards.
