WAYNE, N.J. – Junior guard Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) poured in 32 points, including a key three-pointer during the game's final minute, to help lift William Paterson (11-2, 3-1 NJAC) to a 73-71 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) men's basketball victory against visiting Richard Stockton (8-6, 2-1 NJAC) Jan. 7.

Ahead by two at 65-63 with 1:28 left, Chandler drained a trey from five feet behind the left arc as the shot clock was about to expire, handing the Pioneers a five-point edge at 68-63 with 52 seconds remaining.

After the two teams exchanged trips to the line, Stockton's Darnell McCargo nailed a three-pointer from the left corner, pulling the Ospreys to within one, 71-70, with 21.2 seconds on the clock.

Chandler received the inbounds pass and was fouled, making the first of two free throws (72-70, 17.2 seconds).  Chandler fouled Bill McDonough on the other end, but the Osprey junior squandered a chance to knot the score when he missed his second attempt from the charity stripe with 3.7 seconds remaining (72-71).  Junior Lance Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Paterson Catholic) rebounded the missed free throw and was fouled, making the second of two attempts from the stripe for a 73-71 score with 0.8 second on the clock.  A long inbounds pass was collected by Salman Yusuff near the left baseline, but his contested attempt wasn't on line as time expired.

Chandler was 13-for-21 (.619) from the field for his 32 points, adding five rebounds and three assists.  Brown posted nine tallies and nine boards, and junior Rick DeStefano (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) chipped in eight points.  William Paterson shot 50.9 (28-55) percent from the field, including a 14-for-25 (.560) effort during the second half.

McCargo led Richard Stockton with 15 points, McDonough finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, and DiAndre Brown had 12 tallies.

Eight lead changes and eight ties marked a back-and-forth first half.  The Ospreys took a narrow 31-30 lead into the locker room behind Brown's eight points.

William Paterson will host Rutgers-Newark Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 6:00 p.m.
