WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) posted 10 points and 13 assists to wrap up his second straight Louis Fleming Basinger Tournament Most Valuable Player honors as the Lycoming College men's basketball team shot a season-high 60.4 percent en route to the school's first win-ever against Mount Union, 91-75, in the championship game of the tournament at the Lamade Gym on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
 
The Warriors (12-0 overall) broke a 45-year-old mark as they extended their winning streak to 12, breaking the mark of 11 set from Feb. 1, 1967-Dec. 8, 1967, led by the 5-7 point guard Williams, who turned the ball over just three times while adding five rebounds, three steals and an 8-of-12 effort from the line.
 
"What I'm most happy about is the team is really happy for each other," Lycoming College head coach Guy Rancourt said. "It's not the fact that Patrick (Dougher) had a bunch of threes or Anthony (Martin) had a lot of points in the first half or Jerald (Williams) is breaking records left and right, it's that they are happy for each other. I think that is going to be the most important thing continuing on."
 
The Purple Raiders (4-7 overall) stayed in the game early against the Warriors, who are receiving votes in the D3Hoops.com poll, thanks to the long ball, hitting five 3-pointers to take a 15-12 lead, but the pressing Warriors got the lead back with 11 straight points, led by four from junior Anthony Martin (Detroit, Mich./Christ the King).
 
Lycoming never allowed Mount Union back within five and extended the lead to as many as 13 in the first half thanks to 18 points in the period by Martin, who also hit a trey with 1:03 left in the half to help the Warriors take a 48-36 lead at the break.
 
The Warriors broke the game open in the first 10 minutes of the second half, going on a 23-10 run that was capped by a 3-pointer from freshman Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) with 11:15 left. The Raiders cut the lead back down to 10 with 3:55 left at 83-73 after a fastbreak layup from Keith Williams, but the Warriors closed the game on an 8-2 run to guarantee the win.
 
Lycoming shot 68 percent from the field in the second half while holding Mount Union, which hit 13 3-pointers in the game, to just 30 percent from the field in the half. The Warriors posted 23 points off turnovers and 18 on the fast break.
 
Williams averaged 6.5 points, 12 assists and 2.5 steals en route to the MVP honors and Dougher also earned a spot on the all-tournament team after posting 17 points and five 3-pointers against the Purple Raiders. He averaged 15.0 points for the tournament.
 
Martin led the Warriors with 22 points and senior Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) posted 16 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) added six points, nine rebounds and three blocks and sophomore Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) notched eight points and two assists.
 
Nate Jacubec posted 17 points, five rebounds and five assists and all-tournament honoree Jimmy Wood posted 16 points, three treys and five rebounds. Keith Williams posted 14 points and both Clayton Patton and T.J. Gillepsie added 10.
 
In the consolation game, Immaculata's Nelson Torres hit a driving layup with 20 seconds left to lead the Mighty Macs to an 84-83 come-from-behind win over Penn State Abington. Torres led the Mighty Macs with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Warriors will look for their 13^th straight win when they head to King's for a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday, Jan. 7 in a game against the former Freedom Conference rivals.
