York Guts Out Hard-Fought Victory Over N.C. Wesleyan

York got contributions from just about everyone who entered the game. Tony Vails led the way for York with 17 points and six rebounds.  Kevin Lausell netted 13 points, while connecting on a trio of three-pointers andWilliam Holley had nine points in just 14 minutes of action.  Omari Phippsalso added six points and ten boards and Michael Edwards handed out six assists and chipped in five points.
 
With the game going back-and-forth throughout, York found itself trailing by one point (74-73) with 1:22 remaining. On York's ensuing possessionWilliam Holley was fouled shooting a three-pointer and was awarded three shots.  Holley made all three to put York up by two points (76-74).
 
North Carolina Wesleyan was fouled on its next possession and went to the line with a chance to tie the game once again.  However, Ric Yarborough missed both shots and Phipps came up with the rebound for York.  Holley was fouled shortly after and made one of two shots to extend the lead to three-points with 20 seconds remaining.
 
Following a time-out, N.C. Wesleyan's Josh Morrison attempted a game-tying three-pointer from a few feet beyond the arc but came up short and the Cardinals came up with the rebound. York's Mark Evans was fouled and made one of two free throws to make it a two possession game and clinch the win for York.
 
N.C. Wesleyan shot at an impressive 51 percent for the game compared to 40 percent for York but the Cardinals were +6 in turnover differential and converted those turnovers into 18 points, compared to just eight for N.C. Wesleyan College.  York also had 21 second-chance points, while North Carolina Wesleyan had just 12 second-chance points.
 
The Battling Bishops were led by Matt Dougherty who had 24 points and Alex Murray who had 21 points and seven rebounds. 
 
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-9, while N.C. Wesleyan drops to 6-5.  York will visit arch-rival Brooklyn College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
