William Paterson Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Purchase, 73-50

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior guard/forward Lance Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Paterson Catholic) led all players with 21 points and 14 rebounds as William Paterson (10-1) cruised past Purchase (5-4) for a 73-50 men's basketball victory Dec. 30.

 

Trailing by one at 24-23 with 4:45 remaining in the first half, the Pioneers scored 14 of the final 16 points of the period and entered the break with a 37-26 advantage.  WP put the game out of reach, opening the second half with a 19-5 burst to build a commanding 56-31 lead with 13:42 on the clock.

 

After shooting 39.4 (13-33) percent during the contest's first 20 minutes, William Paterson made 16 of its 29 (.552) attempts during the second period, all while limiting the Panthers to a 28.8 (17-59) percent effort and 1-for-14 (.071) shooting from three-point range.  The Pioneers also doubled-up Purchase on the boards (52-26).

 

Junior guard Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) posted 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, while classmate Julio Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) contributed 12 points off the bench.  Freshman Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) had eight rebounds, and classmate James McLane (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) chipped in seven tallies and six boards.

 

John Pressley scored 17 points to pace Purchase.  Brandon Serrano added 10 tallies and seven rebounds.

 

William Paterson will visit Montclair State Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 8:00 p.m.
