Final Shot Sends FDU-Florham Past Scots in Tampa Classic

The Maryville College Fighting Scots returned to the court on Thursday evening in Tampa, Florida to challenge for the 2011 Tampa Classic title. MC's Milton Stanley hit a jumper with 22 seconds remaining to put the Scots up 61-60. Following a timeout, FDU-Florham's Adam Katz hit a jumper with eight ticks remaining to give the Devils from New Jersey a 62-61 victory.

Maryville's stingy defense held Fairleigh Dickinson to only 31% shooting in the first half while forcing 10 turnovers. MC took a 30-26 lead to the half after hitting 36% of their shots, which included a 1-for-9 effort from beyond the arc.

FDU-Florham out rebounded the Scots in the second half. The Devils found their touch from long distance finishing with a 71% effort from three-point range. MC finished 4-for-17 from long distance. Following 17 lead changes, including Stanley's and Katz's key baskets, the Scots fell to 6-5 on the season while FDU-Florham advanced to 4-5.

Maryville was paced by Milton Stanley's game-high 22 points. The senior from Florida enjoyed being on native soil tossing in 9-of-23 shots. He added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals to his complete effort. Maverick Willett returned to the post following an early injury. The senior was 6-for-9 from the floor finishing with 12 points. Ben Williamson and Donald Rucker paced MC on the boards with seven rebounds each.

FDY-Florham had three players post double digit efforts. Will Green finished with a double-double with 18 rebounds and 17 points while Trevor Sykes also added 17 points to lead the Devils. Katz's game-winner gave him 14 points on the evening.

Maryville will challenge SUNYIT at 1:00 p.m. on Friday for the consolation match-up. DePauw will play FDU-Florham for the tournament title at 3:00 p.m.
