NJCU Scores 65-52 Win Over Lightning Men

More news about: Lehman

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - A 16-2 run by the host Knights to open the second half proved too much to overcome for the visiting Lightning as New Jersey City University knocked off Lehman College 65-52 in men's basketball action on Wednesday night.

Jersey City's Matt Washington (10 points) and Lehman's George Nimmons (16 points) were the only players to score in double figures as neither team scorched the nets.  Lehman shot just 34 percent for the game from the field and could not find the range from the free throw stripe either, going an unsightly 13-for-29.  The Knights were not much better, shooting 40 percent from the floor and 56 percent from the charity stripe.

Following a first half that included only nine made field goals by Lehman, the Lightning still found itself in the game and down by only 10 points, 33-23.

However, starting with a fastbreak layup by Walik Albright, NJCU put the game away rather quickly, needing about six minutes to balloon its lead to 24 at 49-25 with 12:56 remaining.  The Knights showcased a balanced attack during the run with seven different players finding their way into the scoring column.

The closest the Lightning would get the remainder of the way was the 13 points it trailed by once the final buzzer had sounded.

Wednesday night's loss is the second straight for the Lightning and drops it to 5-3 on the season.  NJCU improves to 8-1.

Lehman travels back to New Jersey on Friday night for another non-conference game, this time with William Paterson University.
