More news about: Coe

CHICAGO, Ill. - Coe was able to overcome two double-digit leads by North Park, but it wasn't enough in a 79-64 loss to the Vikings Saturday afternoon.  The loss came in the Kohawks first game outside of Eby Fieldhouse this season.

Coe jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of layups by junior Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle), but the Vikings offense ignited with a 12-0 run over the next 3:23 to take a 12-4 lead with 15:03 to play.  North Park extended the lead to 21-12 with 9:11 to play in the first half, but Coe answered with an 11-2 run over the next 2:26 to tie the game at 23 with 5:55 left in the first half.

The Kohawks got a 3-pointer from sophomore Andrew Wirth (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) to tie the game at 31 with 1:51 to go and took a two-point lead with 1:15 left in the half on a jumper by Conor Bernhard (Byron, Ill./Byron).  Christian Alsing hit a 3-pointer with :46 left in the half for North Park, as they took a 34-33 lead into the half.

After a pair of free throws by Schneidermeier for the Vikings in the opening minute of the second half, Coe went on a 6-0 run in less than a minute to take a 69-36 lead, its largest lead since opening the game with four-straight points.  With 17:39 to play, the Vikings opened the game up with a 16-0 run in 3:56, taking a 52-39 lead with 13:43 to play.

Coe would use a 7-3 run with 11:39 to play, as the lead was cut to nine.  Just over a minute later, North Park had the lead back to 15 with a 7-1 run.  Coe wouldn't come within single-digits the remainder of the game.

Wirth and junior Garrett Cross (Spring Grove, Minn./Spring Grove) led the Kohawks with 14 and 10 points respectively.  Light added eight points, while junior David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) added seven.  Mark Holmes had a game-high 23 points for North Park.

Freshman Caleb Miller (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) had a game-high eight rebounds for the Kohawks.  Light and senior Kevin Gaster (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) added six boards apiece for Coe.  Wirth led the Kohawks with three assists.

The Kohawks will return to action on Sunday, as they travel to the University of Chicago.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.  Links for live video and live stats, both provided by the University of Chicago, can be found on the front page of www.CoeAthletics.com
