Montclair Gets Back on Winning Track Rolling Past Vaughn, 79-40

Montclair, NJ (12/18/11) – Senior forward Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action as Montclair State bounced back from its loss to Richard Stockton rolling past Vaughn College, 79-40 at the Panzer Athletic Center on Sunday afternoon.

Junior guard Ken Rubenstein (South Orange, NJ / Columbia) and freshman backcourt partner Brian Flores (Union, NJ / Union) each added 11 points as the Red Hawks won for the sixth time in its last seven outings, improving to 8-3 on the season.

Montclair State never trailed in the game and were tied twice in the erarly minutes. Tied at 4-4, MSU ripped off the next 11 points to take a 15-4 lead. Rubenstein began the run with a long three-pointer and Flores followed with another from behind the arc making the score 10-4. James D'Angelo (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central) hit once from the line and Flores added scored on a layup before Ordel Goldson (Hackettstown, NJ / Warren Hills) put back a rebound with 15:16 left as Montclair led by 11.

August had 10 points and six rebounds in the first half and his layup with 8:10 remaining gave the Red Hawks a 32-7 lead. Rubenstein's second three-pointer in the opening 20 minutes gave MSU its largest lead at 36-9 as Montclair crusied into halftime with a 44-19 lead thanks in part to 59 percent shooting (17-of-29) from the field.

Goldson finished with six points and seven rebounds while D'Angelo and Aaron Williams (West Orange, NJ / Jonathan Dayton) also collected six points apiece.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, December 20 when they host Immaculata at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm.
