COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Pacific held off a late rally by Walla Walla to post a milestone win in their first road contest of the season Thursday, holding on to beat the Wolves 63-61 in men's basketball action at the Winter Education Complex Gymnasium.

After leading by as much as 18 points with 13 minutes to go, the Wolves went on a 22-5 run over the next 10 minutes to bring the game within one.  Walla Walla was still within a point with 13 seconds left when Colin Wester (Jr., Sherwood, Ore.) connected on a free throw to secure the victory.

With the victory, Pacific improved to 5-2 on the season and surpassed their win total from the 2010-11 season.  The Boxers went 4-21 in their first season under Head Coach Tim Cleary.

Wester led all scorers with 26 points, connecting on 10 of 13 from the field, three three-pointers and 3 of 4 from the free throw line to go along with two assists and four steals.  Dustin Bowser (Jr., Bellingham, Wash.) added nine points to go along with a team-high five rebounds.  Pacific shot 47.8 percent from the field (22-46) for the contest.

Mark Moore came off the bench to lead Walla Walla with 24 points on 8 of 12 from the field and 7 of 8 from the charity stripe.  He also shared the team lead in rebounds of six with Josh Hough.  Taylor Lewis added nine points.  The NAIA Division II independent Wolves (1-15) shot 44.7 percent for the game (21-47).

Pacific never trailed in the contest and scored the first nine points of the game, taking the 9-0 lead on a Bowser bucket three minutes in.  The Wolves came back to within three points on Andrew Bailey's lay-in with 12:40 to go.  Walla Walla was still within three, 18-15, at the 8:36 mark when Coby Proctor (Fr., Sublimity, Ore.) hit a three to spark a 7-0 run and went back up 10 points on back-to-back Wester buckets with 7:41 left.

The Boxers maintained that cushion for the rest of the half, with Bailey pulling up for a jumper with 56 seconds left to bring Walla Walla within 32-24 at the half.

Walla Walla was within nine points, 38-29, with four minutes gone in the second half before the Boxers went on a 12-3 run over the next three minutes to build their largest lead of the game.  David Berney (Jr., Eugene, Ore.) started the run with two free throws and Wester capped it with a three-pointer at the 13:17 mark to take an 18-point lead at 50-32.

Pacific went cold from there, allowing the Wolves to go on a 22-5 run over the next 10 minutes to challenge for the win. Lewis' three-pointer at the 10:30 mark cut the Walla Walla deficit to eight points.  Moore then connected on a pair of free throws with 5:35 to go to cut the lead to four and two more free throws with 3:35 left to bring the Wolves within striking distance at 55-54.

Wester ended the run with a three-pointer with 3:04 left, but the Wolves did their part to keep it close.  Pacific led four when a Moore jumper cut the advantage to two with 49 seconds left and had the Wolves within one when he hit the first of two free throws with 13 seconds left.  Moore missed the second free throw and immediately the Wolves fouled the rebounding Wester, who connected on one of two charity shots to win it.

Pacific returns home on Monday for their seventh home game in their first eight contests.  The Boxers will host New Hope Christian with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
