Junior Jerald Williams became the Warriors' all-time steals leader on Tuesday, posting three in the 71-50 win over Juniata.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) became the Lycoming College men's basketball program's career steals leader, posting three in the game, and junior Anthony Martin (Detroit, Mich./Christ the King) posted 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half as a tough Warrior defense held down a hot Juniata College team, 71-50, in non-conference action at the Lamade Gym on Tuesday night, Dec. 6.
Williams set the record 6:54 into the game, picking a pocket for the 182nd time in his career, his first of three in the game, as he passed Geoff Boblick (1994-98) for the top spot in the record book. The 5-7 guard finished the game with four points, eight assists and a game-high nine rebounds.
"The record was in the back of my mind," Williams said, "but I just came out trying to help the team win. As a team, the way we play, I knew I was going to reach the milestone anyway, so that wasn't really a concern."
Martin posted double-figures for the sixth straight game, adding four rebounds, three assists and three steals and sophomoreKevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) added 16 points, three assists and two rebounds, as the duo combined to shoot 14-for-19 from the field.
"For the style of play that we play with, we have to have long, rangy types of players," Lycoming head coach Guy Rancourtsaid. "The fact that they can step out and hit shots from the perimeter make them so hard to defend. It really has helped us to get where we are right now."
The Warriors (7-0 overall) held Juniata (6-2 overall) to 29.3 percent (17-for-58) from the field and forced 24 turnovers, scoring 29 points off them. Lycoming dominated inside the paint as well, holding a 36-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 41-37 advantage on the glass. In the process, Lycoming beat Juniata for the sixth straight time at Lamade Gym.
Lycoming jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first 9:30 of the game, using a 9-0 run over the last five minutes of that run, led by five points from junior Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King). Juniata answered with a 15-4 run to take a 23-21 lead, capped by a pair of free throws from Alex Raymond with 4:32 left.
With the score 24-23 with 2:47 left in the half, though, Lycoming started a 27-5 run that spanned the halves and gave it a 50-29 lead with 13:29 left in the half. Martin scored 14 of his points during the run, scoring the last two buckets of the run with fastbreak layups.
"We had to refocus a little bit at halftime and understand who we are as a team," Rancourt said. "We got away from it a little bit in the first half and then we put together one of our best halves of the year in the second half."
The two teams played evenly from there, as Juniata never came within 17 points again and Lycoming's lead grew to 23 points twice, with the last coming with 2:05 left.
Senior Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) posted eight points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals and freshman Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) added eight points and four assists. SophomoreMichael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville) added six points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Juniata was led by 12 points, four rebounds and three steals from Jeremy Hays and 11 points and four assists from Alex Raymond. Kevin Stapleton added nine rebounds for the Eagles.
