ST. PAUL, Minn. – After a tightly played first half, the Hamline men's basketball team used a big second half scoring effort en route to an 88-48 win over Caltech on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss snaps the Beavers three-game winning streak.

Throughout much of the opening stanza, the Pipers (4-4) kept their lead at single digits but used a scoring run midway into the first half to grab control of the game. After a Bryan Joel lay-in with 9:24 left until halftime cut Caltech's deficit to 15-10, the home squad responded with a 10-2 scoring spurt to extended their lead to 25-12 with 5:44 remaining in the session.

Caltech (4-3) slowly chipped away at their 13-point hole and got within six points at 27-21 on an Andrew Hogue lay-up with 1:54 remaining. That was as close as the Beavers got in the first half as Hamline went into the locker room with a 34-24 advantage.

Hamline methodically grew their second half lead and never let their advantage get smaller than 12 points in the final frame en route to the victory. During the second half, the home squad went 19-of-33 (57.6 percent) from the field while holding Caltech to a 10-of-33 (30.3 percent) final half shooting effort.

The Pipers inside game was a factor all game as they grabbed 51 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end, to aid in the win. Hamline held a 19-4 edge in second change points while posting a 46-16 advantage in points in the paint.

Mike Campbell tallied game highs in points (16) and rebounds (10) to lead the Hamline performance. Dior Ford chipped in 13 points while Charlie Choiniere came off the bench to score 13 to help the home teams cause.

Michael Edwards had a Caltech best 11 points while Todd Cramer tallied a 10-point, nine-rebound effort.

The Beavers return home on Saturday afternoon for a 5:00 p.m. contest against UC Santa Cruz at the Braun Athletic Center.
