WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Roanoke College used a strong second half shooting performance to key a 77-65 non-conference men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (1-5) led 36-31 at the break over Roanoke (2-5), but could only watch as the Maroons shot 19 for 33 (57.6 percent) in the second half to pull away.

After SU took a 42-36 lead following a Dominic Chappell 3-pointer at the 17:18 mark of the second, Roanoke scored nine of the game's next 11 points in a span of 3:07 to take a 45-44 advantage.

The two teams swapped the lead two more times in the ensuing 17 seconds, but the Maroons never trailed again after Logan Singleton gave his club a 47-46 lead on a layup with 13:21 remaining.

Singleton's layup started a 14-3 spurt for RC that gave the Maroons total control of the contest.

The final bucket on this run, by Adam Kessler, pushed the lead into double digits for the first time.

Shenandoah was able to cut the deficit into single digits on just one more possession, following a pair of Avery Green free throws, before Roanoke pulled away.

The Maroons answered those Green foul shots with their last run, this one 16-3.

Kwasi Amponsah led the victors with 30 points while Singleton added 14.

Kessler had a game-high 10 boards for Roanoke, who owned a 45-25 advantage on the glass.

RC had 20 second-chance points to the Hornets' four.

Freshman James Bowens paced the hosts with 18 points with Chappell adding 12.

Shenandoah travels to Randolph tomorrow for a 2 p.m. contest.
