COUGARS FALL TO BORO AND CONFERENCE RIVAL BC

Brooklyn, NY- The Cougars fell to the Brooklyn College Bulldogs 84-79 on Tuesday Nov.29, 2011 at Brooklyn College. The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 Overall and 1-0 CUNYAC while the Cougars fell to 3-4 Overall and 0-1 CUNYAC.

These conference and boro rivals played a great game in the 1st half. It was an epic battle between two teams less than 5 miles apart. The half had 5 tie scores and 2 lead changes. BC struck first followed by jumper from Jovan Deare of MEC. MEC would regain the lead 10-8, on a jumper by Junior Winston Douglas. MEC would lead by as much as 7pts and eat up 14 minutes on the clock. With about a minute to go in the half, Amil John and Kavon Baker would make back to back layups, giving BC a 4pt lead. Jarrel Deare for MEC would cut the lead to 2 with 3 seconds left. The score was 35-33 BC at the half. MEC shot 36.8% from the field, 20% from the 3pt. range, and a perfect 100% from the free throw line (4-4). BC shot 44.4% from the field, 11.1% from 3pt. range, and 28.6% from the free throw line. Winston Douglas led the Cougars with 10pts. He grabbed 4 rebounds, tallied 2 assists and a block. BC was led by Kavon Baker, who tallied 12pts.

The 2nd half started off with back to back shots from the Cougars, giving them the lead 37-35. The lead would swap 6 times and would feature 6 lead changes. BC would tie the game 47 at 14:27, when Steven Grant made a jumper. BC would lead the rest of the game. They led by as much as 16pts. MEC cut the lead to 2pts. when Sophomore Guard Tony Sims made a layup. BC would go on a 4-0 run after they made all their free throws. MEC would make one final 3pt shot by Junior Guard Chris Cornish Jr. making the score 82-79. BC would add 2 more pts., making the final 84-79. MEC in the half shot 52.9% from the field, 25% from the 3pt. range, and 57.1% from the free throw line. BC shot 42.1% from the field, 57.1% from 3pt. range (4-7), and 81.3% from the free throw line (13-16). MEC was led by Winston Douglas, who scored 14pts and grabbed 10 rebounds. BC was led by Steven Grant, who scored 15pts.

For the game, MEC was led by Winston Douglas. Douglas scored 24pts (11-19 FG). He grabbed 14 rebounds, tallied 4 assists and 4 blocks. Jarrel Deare scored 19pts (7-8 FT), grabbed 6 rebounds, tallied 7 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Jovan Deare scored 16pts (4-4 FT) and grabbed 12 rebounds. He tallied 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal. BC was led by Steven Grant with 24pts. Kavon Baker added 21pts and Amil John scored 20pts. Tyshawn Russell scored 17pts.

MEC will be back in action on Friday Dec.2, 2011 when they play Penn St.- Abington at the Salisbury Tournament in Salisbury, MD. Game time is set for 6pm.
