Krohman Hits Three-Pointer at the Buzzer to Give Saints a 67-66 Win Over Washington & Jefferson

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior shooting guard Todd Krohman (Florence, Ky./Boone County) drained a three-pointer from nearly 30-feet out as time expired to give the Thomas More College men's basketball team a 67-66 win over Washington & Jefferson College tonight (Wednesday, December 7, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Presidents fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More took an early 16-13 lead when senior point guard Daniel Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) made a three-pointer at the 14:16 mark of the first half.  W&J answered with a 15-3 run to take a 28-19 lead on an old fashion three-point play by Zach Bellhy with 9:08 to play in the first half.  The Saints used a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 28-26 with 7:00 to play in the opening half when sophomore point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) made two free-throws.  The Presidents responded with an 11-2 run capped by a three-pointer by Jake Swan to extend the lead to 39-28 with 3:15 to play before halftime.  Thomas More closed out the half on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 39-33 at halftime when Whelan drilled a three-pointer with 36-seconds to play in the half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 10-4 run to tie the game at 43-43 when junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) made a jumper with 12:33 to play in the game.  W&J came right back with an 8-4 run to take a 51-47 lead with 6:06 to play in the game when Daryan Robinson made two free-throws.  Undaunted Thomas More answered with an 11-4 run capped by a Whelan lay-up to take a 58-55 lead with 4:10 to play in the game.  The Presidents put together an 11-6 run to build a 66-64 lead with 15-seconds to play in the game when Zach Zelinksy made one-of-two free-throws.  The Saints inbounded the ball under their basket with one-second to play in the game and threw it into Krohman at the top of the key where he made the three-point from nearly 30-feet at the buzzer to give the Saints the 67-66 victory.

Whelan and Feinberg led the Saints in scoring as they each had 13 points and Berlekamp added 11.  Feinberg led the Saints on the boards with a game-high eight rebounds, while Whelan led the team in assists with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (December 10) when it travels to Bethany, West Virginia to play Bethany College at 4 p.m. inside Hummel Field House.
