Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team defeated borough rival Polytechnic Institute of New York University on the road by a score of 78-53 earlier today. With the win, the Bulldogs push their winning streak to four straight to improve to 5-1 overall on the season, while the Fighting Blue Jays fall to 0-6 overall on the year.

Senior guard Tyshawn Russell led the way for BC with a game-high 36 points on 15-for-27 shooting from the field, including going 4-for-9 from three and 2-for-2 from the line. The 36 points for Russell also marked a new career-high. Junior forward Kavon Baker had a well-rounded game, adding 15 points, a team-leading six rebounds, a game-best seven assists and a game-high eight steals.

Of the 15 Brooklyn players that appeared in the game, 11 scored.

For NYU-Poly, Alex Westphal recorded a double-double with a team-leading 12 points and a game-best 10 rebounds, while adding four blocks. Jethro Auguste also chipped in with 12 points coming off the bench.

The Bulldogs led from the opening tip until the final buzzer, as BC started the game on a 15-5 run to take an early 10-point advantage with 14:22 left in the first half. Russell and Baker combined to score 13 of the 15 points in the run.

After an Auguste jumper cut the Fighting Blue Jays' deficit to seven, 19-12, at the 10:25 mark, Brooklyn utilized a 16-0 run to extend its lead to 23, 35-12, the largest of the half, with just 5:46 remaining before the break. Russell was a one man scoring machine for BC, as the Jamaica, NY native accounted for all 16 points in the run. The Bulldogs would eventually head into the locker room with a 40-26 advantage.

Brooklyn would continue to dominate the game in the second half, as the Bulldogs lead would never get under double digits, building its lead to as many as 34, 70-36, following a free throw from senior Jonathan Martinez with 7:14 remaining in the game.

The stingy BC defense forced NYU-Poly into 38 turnovers, while accounting for 29 steals. The Bulldogs shot 41.3% (31-75) from the field, 24.1% (7-29) from beyond the arc and 50.0% (9-18) from the free throw line. The Fighting Blue Jays shot 44.7% (17-38) from the field, 20.0% (2-10) from three and 65.4% (17-for-26) from the line.

NYU-Poly held the rebounding edge 49-28.

Brooklyn will be back in action on Monday, December 5th, as the Bulldogs will travel to New York University for a non-conference match-up. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
