McDonald leads way for Cadets

NORTHFIELD, VT. – Norwich University's comeback from an early deficit wound up short Dec. 4 in the consolation final of the 2011 Ed Hockenbury Classic.

Coach Paul Booth's Cadets (1-5) trailed visiting SUNY-Purchase 35-17 late in the first half before rallying all the way to within three (45-42) early in the second stanza. The Panthers (4-2) answered with a 14-4 run of their own and didn't look back en route to an 82-71 victory.

Sophomore guard Tommy McDonald (Groton, Mass.) poured in a personal single-game career high 25 points due to five three-pointers and a perfect four-for-four effort from the charity stripe. Senior forward Antonio Davis (Albany, N.Y.), earning all-tournament honors, added 15 points and seven rebounds for Norwich.

Booth's squad returns to action Thursday, Dec. 8, when they open 2011-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a 7 p.m. tip-off at Albertus Magnus.

NOTES – D3Hoops.com No. 7-ranked Williams claimed the tourney title holding off a strong charge from Worcester State for a 70-52 victory. Junior guard Nate Robertson added the Ephs' weekend success by being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
