#13-Ranked Wheaton rallies to defeat Calvin College 71-68

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Wheaton College men's basketball team scored 42 second-half points and held off Calvin College 71-68 in the CCIW-MIAA Classic on Saturday.

The No. 13-ranked Thunder improve to 6-1 while the Knights even their record at 4-4.

Calvin held the advantage at halftime 32-29 and continued to build on it throughout the second half. With about six minutes left in the game, the Knights were up by 13 points at 60-47.

That's when the Thunder's offense came alive and scored 18-straight points to take a 65-60 lead in the final minute. Aaron Garriott scored seven points and Tim McCrary tallied six points in the run. The lead held out in the final seconds as Wheaton hit its final six free throws.

McCrary put up a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. The senior power forward shot 6-for-9 from the field and 11-for-13 from the charity stripe. Garriott tallied 19 points. Tyler Peters totaled nine points and dished out seven assists on the night.

Wheaton shot 22-for-50 from the field (44 percent), 4-for-17 from three-point range (23 percent) and 23-for-30 from the free throw line (77 percent).

Calvin shot 26-for-60 from the field (43 percent), 3-for-11 from three-point range (27 percent) and 11-for-16 from the free throw line (69 percent). The Knights won the rebounding battle 38-29. Matt DeBoer scored 20 points to lead the team.

The Thunder continue its road trip on Thursday at Westminster (Mo.) College at 7 PM on Thursday.
