Devils Win Conference Opener at Swarthmore 79-67

(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team posted a 79-67 win on the road in its Centennial Conference opener at Swarthmore on Tuesday night.

 

The Devils broke open a close first half to take a 28-12 lead. The Garnet fought back at the end of the half to trail 35-29 at the break.

 

The Red Devils led by double-figures for most of the second half, but couldn't pull away from the battling Garnet. They held their biggest lead midway through the half, 61-46. Jordan Federer knocked-down back-to-back three-pointers to keep Swarthmore within striking distance.

 

The Devils would hold on, improving to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference.

 

Senior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) led the way with 15 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) added 15 points as well, controlling seven rebounds while hitting 4-of-5 free throws.

 

Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) tallied 13 points and five rebounds. First-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) also scored 13 points, adding nine rebounds and dishing out five assists. He ended his consecutive free throw shooting streak at 26 straight. That matches the second longest streak in school history and the best start to a career as he hit the first 26 of the season.

 

The Red Devils return home to face Juniata College next Monday night at 7:30 pm.
