Denison back to .500 after 22-point win at Hiram

Larry Farmer scored 18 points and had a season-high 14 rebounds as Denison moved back to the .500 mark following a 68-46 victory over Hiram College on Wednesday night from Price Gymnasium.

Denison never trailed in the contest and led by 18-points at the half thanks to a strong defensive effort that held the Terriers to 26 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.  Farmer paced DU in the opening half with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists.  As a team, Denison outrebounded Hiram 30-8 and 13 of its 38 first half points came via offensive rebounds.

In the second half DU would withstand a 12-3 run by Hiram over a three minute span that trimmed the Big Red lead to 10 with just over six minutes to play.  With 5:46 left, Mike Garabedian knocked down a short jumper down low. After a Hiram turnover at the other end, Jim Leffew drilled his third 3-pointer of the night, pushing the Denison lead back to 15 at 61-46 with 5:01 remaining. 

Hiram would not score again as Denison ended the game on a 12-0 run to improve to 3-3 on the season.

Farmer finished 8-for-13 from the field for 18 points.  His 14 rebounds were a season-high.  He also added three assists and three steals.  Garabedian followed with nine points, five rebounds and five assists in 25 minutes of action.  Dimonde Hale chipped in nine points and seven boards in 21 minutes while Leffew also scored nine, all from beyond the arc.

Denison shot 45 percent from the field and was 6-of-7 from the free throw line while committing only nine turnovers.

Hiram was led by Aaron Stefanov's 15 points.  The Terriers shot 35 percent from the field and were just 4-of-17 from 3-point range.

The Big Red will host Wabash on Saturday (Dec. 3) at 3 p.m.  The Denison Sports Network will provide a live video broadcast of the game beginning at 2:50 p.m.
