Memphis, Tenn., November 26, 2011 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 83-56 victory over Principia College in the consolation championship game of the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.

Washington University had 14 of 15 players find the scorebook, including a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds from juniorRobert Burnett. Sophomore Tim Cooneyand freshman Brayden Teuscher added 11 points in the win. Seniors Jake Seymour andAlex Toth added eight points apiece for the Bears, who shot 51.6 percent (32-62) from the field and hit a season-high 10 three-pointers.

Washington U. jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the opening four minutes of the contest behind five points from junior Ben Hoener. A three-pointer by Teuscher gave the Bears a 24-14 lead, but an 8-0 run by Principia got the advantage down to 24-22 with 9:46 to play. That would be as close at the Panthers would get, as back-to-back three's by Teuscher and junior Max Needle highlighted an 8-0 run to get the lead back to 10 (32-22).

The Bears took a 42-30 lead to halftime after outscoring Principia 17-3 in points off turnovers. Washington U. also had a 24-0 advantage in bench points as Principia played just seven players.

With the starters back in to start the second half, the Bears quickly got the lead to 29 (61-32) with 12:03 to play following a 15-0 run by the Bears. Cooney had a jumper and a three-pointer in a span of 33 seconds to highlight the run.

Kenny Sydness (23 points) and Colin Angle (14 points) scored in double figures for Principia, who dropped their fourth-straight game to start the season.

Washington University (3-2) hosts the 28th Annual Lopata Classic on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Mo. No. 2 ranked Augustana College takes on Wisconsin Lutheran College on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by Washington U. and Whittier College at 8 p.m.

Bear Notebook: Washington U. has won five of the six all-time meetings between the two teams … The Bears outrebounded Principia 43-19 and lead the University Athletic Association (UAA) with an 11.6 rebounding margin.
