TIFFIN, Ohio—Senior forward Darion Capers (Clayton/Trotwood-Madison) scored a team-high 19 points and sophomore forward Victor Fortkamp (St. Henry) had 12, but the Heidelberg University men's basketball team fell to Thomas More (Ky.) College, 84-63, tonight in the final game of the inaugural 'Berg Alumni Classic at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio. Both Capers and Fortkamp were named to the all-tournament team.

Junior forward Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) and junior guard Quintin Aden (Canal Winchester/Harvest Prep) each scored eight points and junior guard Dane Giver (Pittsburgh, Pa./Harvest Prep) added seven markers of his own.

The Student Princes (1-1) raced out to a 7-0 lead and held one of two eight-points leads in the first half at 10-2 when Aden buried a three-pointer at the 17:47 mark. Fortkamp extended the 'Berg lead—the largest of the game—to 14-6 when he made a layup with 15:48 on the clock.

Thomas More (3-0) then went on a 10-0 run spanning 3:17 and took a 16-14 lead with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half when tournament MVP Daniel Whelan made a triple.

Heidelberg tied the score two more times in the first half, but the Saints took the lead for good at 20-18 on a Colt Stafford layup as the clock ticked to under 10 minutes.

Whelan gave TMC its largest lead of the half when he connected on two free throws inside of 30 seconds to give the Saints a 42-32 advantage. Fortkamp made a layup at the buzzer to send the Berg into halftime with an eight-point deficit.

TMC held a double-digit lead throughout much of the second period. The Student Princes closed to within six points at 55-49 when Capers penetrated the lane for a layup at the 13:55 mark.

Phil Feinburg took the Saints on a 15-0 run midway through the half—scoring 13 points himself—to give TMC a 70-49 advantage and the Saints would not hold less than a 20-point lead the rest of the way.

Whelan had game-highs of 28 points and five assists and shot a smoldering 10-of-15 from the field. Stafford was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down a game-high-tying nine rebounds. Feinburg finished with 15 markers and Spencer Berlekamp had 13 points of his own. As a team, TMC was 64.3 percent (34-of-53) from the floor, including six-of-nine from three-point range.

Despite the loss, Heidelberg outrebounded TMC, 37-27, led by Davis, who matched Stafford with nine caroms. Davis also blocked three shots. Givner, along with freshman forward Chris Jefferies (Concord/Painesville Riverside) followed Davis with nine boards each.

The Student Princes shot 43.2 percent (25-of-58) from the field, but turned the ball over 24 times.

In addition to Capers and Fortkamp, Feinburg and Stafford were named to the all-tournament team, along with Tanner Klein of Kent State – Tuscarawas.

Heidelberg returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Nov. 22 when it faces Albion (Mich.) College in Albion, Mich. at 7:30 p.m.
