Albion Reaches Turner Tournament Title Game

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College ripped off a 12-0 run over a 6 ½ minute span of the first half as it went on to subdue Franciscan (Ohio) University, 69-36, in an opening round game of the Mike Turner Tip-Off Tournament hosted by the Rotary Club of Albion and sponsored by The Andersons Albion Ethanol.

Albion will square off against Grace (Ind.) College, a 94-86 victor over the University of Akron, Wayne College, at 4 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship.

Playing without two of its key juniors, Albion turned the ball over on its first two possessions and the score was tied, 6-6, five minutes into the contest. Anthony Wash scored five of his 13 points in the first half spurt on a jumper and three free throws. Lawrence Ridgell knocked down a couple of shots and Sean Hendon dialed up a 3-point goal.

Zach Hurth scored on consecutive possessions as the margin ballooned to 15, 23-8, with six minutes left in the first half. Albion held a 31-11 lead at halftime.

Albion shot 57 percent for the game. Hendon and Ridgell finished with career scoring highs of 17 and 10, respectively.
