Scots Stumble in Opener to Centre 70-50

The Maryville College men's basketball team fell to No.20 Centre College by the score of 70-50 in Danville, Kentucky on Tuesday evening.

The Colonels took a 31-24 lead into the half following a pair of 12-0 runs.  Greg Ross was on fire for Centre going 9-for-10 and finishing the first period with 20 points. MC could not find their perimeter game going 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. Maverick Willett and Milton Stanley paced Maryville in first half scoring with eight points each.

The second half saw Centre pull away by capitalizing on Maryville's 15 overall turnovers and a poor perimeter attack. The Scots finished only 1-for-8 from the perimeter. Centre finished the game hitting 47% of their shots while Maryville hit only 37% from the floor.

Centre (1-0) was led by Greg Ross' 32 point effort. Ross was 13-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Maryville (0-1) had three players score in double figures. Guard Milton Stanley had 12 points after hitting 6-of-15 shots while bringing down six rebounds. Post players Donald Rucker (13 points/6 rebounds) and Maverick Willett (12 points/6 rebounds) were strong in the paint. The pair combined for a 10-for-16 effort under the basket.

The Scots will hit the road once again this upcoming weekend to participate in the Webster Classic in St. Louis, Missouri. Maryville will play Rust College on Saturday and Webster University on Sunday.
