DALLAS, Pa. - Six players scored in double figures as Wesley College notched a 76-59 win at Misericordia in the ECAC South Championship Quarterfinals.
All six Wolverines (18-10) scored between 10 and 12 points and Wesley's bench outscored the Cougars' 36-6.
With several starters mired in early foul trouble, the Wolverines were forced to turn to several reserves. Nick Doran (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond), who had scored just 12 points all season, had eight at halftime and finished with a career-high 10 on 4-of-6 shooting. Eric Selby (Wilmington, Del./Howard) tied for the team lead with a dozen points, just two short of his career high. Sixth man Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech) also poured in a dozen points.
Darrell Johnson (New Castle, Del./Howard) and Paul Reynolds (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) paced the starters with 12 points apiece, while Johnson grabbed 10 boards for a double-double. Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep Academy) finished with 10 points.
Wesley shot 50 percent in the game and held a 38-26 advantage on the glass.
The score stood tied at 16-16 after a bucket by Misericordia's Ethan Eichhorst with 10:36 left in the first half. But a pair of threes by Doran bookended four points by Selby as the Wolverines scored 10 straight points to jump ahead 26-16 three minutes later.
Wesley led 36-27 at the half, but the lead stood at just five, 52-47, with 7:52 left in the contest. But Reynolds scored seven of his 12 and Selby added six points in a 17-5 run that made it 69-52 with just 1:47 to go.
Eichhorst did his best to keep the Cougars in the game, pouring in a game-high 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting. He also led the team with seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
Robbie Johnson and Matt Greene added 10 points each.
With the win, Wesley, seeded fifth, travels to Annville, Pennsylvania for the semifinals at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, March 5. The top seeded Flying Dutchmen dismantled Marywood 97-43 in the first round.
The winner of that contest and the DeSales/Catholic semifinal will square off the following day, March 6, in the championship.
