Devils Suffer Setback at Division I Radford

(Radford, Va.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team closed out the calendar year with a tough 86-59 setback at Division I Radford University on Wednesday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday night, but travel conditions forced the game to be postponed. The Highlanders entered the game coming off an impressive 66-55 loss at the University of Florida.

 

The Red Devils held their own and played even throughout most of the first half. The Highlanders led 15-12 at the midpoint of the first half, going on a 11-0 run to stretch the margin to 14 at the 5:55 mark. Radford continued to build on the lead, holding a 46-29 advantage at the break.

 

The second half brought much of the same as the Highlanders continued to add to their lead, forcing 28 turnovers on the day. The Devils, however, forced Radford into 22 miscues while sinking seven three-pointers. The Highlanders held a significant edge on the boards, holding a 40-26 advantage in rebounds.

 

Senior Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) matched a game-high with 17 points, adding a pair of assists and two steals. Sophomore Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) added 12 points and three assists while first-year Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) went 6-for-6 from the free throw line, scoring eight points, adding a pair of steals and two assists as well.

 

Tolga Cerrah led Radford (3-9) with 17 points while Blake Smith added 16 on the afternoon.

 

The Red Devils fall to 5-6 overall. They will return to action on January 4th, hosting Carnegie Mellon University at 7:00 pm.
