Devils Rally, Fall at Juniata 64-60

(Carlisle, Pa)  - The Dickinson College men's basketball team suffered a 64-60 non-conference loss on the road at Juniata on Monday night. The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead and held a 33-28 advantage at halftime.

 

Juniata started the game with a 12-2 run before the Devils used a trio of three-pointers to pull in front, 14-13, with 8:28 remaining in the half. The Eagles stretched the lead back to 10 in the late minutes. First-year Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) hit a three-pointer off an assist from Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga). Jakiela then added a lay-up to make the score 33-28 at the break.

 

Juniata stretched the margin to as many as eight in the second half. The Devils pulled within four at the midway point and took the lead, 60-58, on a lay-up and free throw by senior Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) with 3:11 remaining in regulation.

 

The Eagles answered with a three-point play of their own to lead 61-60. They hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final 25 seconds to secure the 64-60 win.

 

Honig led the Devils with 12 points, hitting 3-of-4 three-pointers and adding a pair of steals. Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) and Dolan each added 10 points. Dolan recorded seven rebounds and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Heine went 4-for-4 from the line and controlled five rebounds.

 

Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) dished out four assists, recording two steals and four points. Jakiela tallied eight points and four rebounds.

 

The Red Devils (2-3, 1-0 CC) return to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday. They travel to McDaniel College for a 7:00 pm start.
