Young Guns Shoot Down Mules 67-56

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team turned in a strong performance on both ends of the floor to post a 67-56 win over visiting Muhlenberg on Tuesday night.

 

The Red Devils stormed out of the gate, taking an early 7-0 lead. Leading 23-20, the Devils went on an 11-6 run to stretch the lead to eight on a three-point play by sophomore Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) with 1:24 remaining in the half. The Mules converted a pair of free throws to trail 34-28 at the break.

 

First-year guard Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) opened the second half with a three-pointer and junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) drained back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to put the Devils up, 45-31, with 15:28 to play.

 

The Devils stretched the margin to as many as 18 in the final minutes. They hit eight three-pointers on the night, including five from underclassmen.

 

Heine finished with a team-high 15 points while Honig tallied 12 on the night. Logan Furr (Sharon, Mass./Beaver Country Day) and Jakiela each finished with eight points while first-year Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) added seven points and dished out four assists.

 

Spencer Liddic scored a game-high 27 points, hitting 11-of-12 free throws to go with eight rebounds for Muhlenberg (5-3, 1-3).

 

The Red Devils improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday for another key match-up when Ursinus comes to town for a 4:00 tip-off.
