Cardinals Get Revenge, End Ranger Win Streak

More news about: Drew

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 11, 2011) - The Cardinals capitalized on a poor second half shooting performance and came away with a 91-48 blowout victory at the DuFour Center. Five players were in double figures for Catholic as Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) led the way for the Rangers.

The loss for the Rangers puts them in a tie for second place with Merchant Marine who defeated Goucher, 85-57 earlier in night. With the win, Catholic now trails both Merchant Marine and Drew by one game.

Catholic (16-7, 7-5 Landmark) scored the first eight points of the game and didn't look back. The Rangers never owned a lead and wouldn't come within 10 points for the remainder of the half. Reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Week Jason Banzhaf led all scorers with 10 points at the half. The Cardinals took a 41-29 lead into the locker room.

Preventing a Ranger comeback, the Rangers went ice cold in the second half. The Rangers, who came into the game second in the Landmark in three point percentage, hit just one three in the final 20 minutes. As a team the Rangers shot 23 percent from the floor in the second half and just 30 percent for the game.

Capers was the only Ranger in double figures, tallying 17 points on 5-of-14 shooting. #Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) led Drew with six rebounds and added seven points.

Drew will look to keep pace in the Landmark standings as they return to action against Goucher tomorrow night at 7:30. The Rangers will need the win to setup an end of the season battle for second place with Merchant Marine next Saturday.
