Sathoff leads Wartburg past Simpson

WAVERLY - Jordan Sathoff scored 30 points, Cole Danielson finished with 19 and Wartburg handed Simpson its fourth-straight loss, 83-78 on Saturday afternoon.

Sathoff reached the 30-point plateau against Simpson for the second time this season, scoring 34 in an 84-71 loss Jan. 19. He went 10-for-18 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for the Knights (9-13, 4-10 Iowa Conference).

Austin Donnelly scored 10 points and Kirk Sidey had nine with 10 assists and eight rebounds.

Cornelius Mosby just missed his third double-double in the last four games, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds for the Storm (9-14, 6-8).

Zack Barragan finished with 15 points, Stefon Brown 12 and JJ Vanderheiden 11. Brown added eight rebounds.

With two games left in the regular season, Simpson finds itself tied with Loras for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament.

A tight game throughout, neither team opened a double-digit lead. Simpson held the largest lead of the game when a 3 by Barragan made the score 46-37 with less than a minute left in the first half.

Simpson led until a jumper by Sidey tied the game at 74 with just over 7 minutes left in the game. A free throw by Sadhoff with 6:25 left gave Wartburg the lead for good.

Simpson closes the season with a pair of home games, beginning with an 8 p.m. matchup against Buena Vista on Wednesday at Cowles Fieldhouse. Simpson beat the Beavers (10-13, 7-7) 83-77 on Jan. 17 in Storm Lake.
