Break up the Yellow Jackets.

New York City College of Technology now has a two game winning streak and it comes to the dismay of the Lehman College Lightning, who found itself on the wrong end of a 66-62 decision on Friday night in the Bronx.

Hardly resembling their 3-15 record, the Yellow Jackets played with great energy and togetherness to knock off a Lightning team that was looking to recover from its last-second loss to the College of Staten Island the night before.

At times during the first 20 minutes the Lightning seemed stunned to find itself having to battle with the Yellow Jackets, falling behind by as many as nine points on the way to trailing City Tech 29-21 at the half.

Ryan Alvarado's three-pointer a little over three minutes into the second stanza extended City Tech's lead to 14 points, 38-24. A three-pointer and free throw by Victor Garcia cut the lead to 10 before Alvarado canned another long distance trey to push the Yellow Jackets' advantage back to 13.

Trailing 46-36, the Lightning generated a 9-0 run that had it poised to overtake City Tech, but Emanuel Adepoju converted on a traditional three-point play, driving strong to the basket and finishing despite contact from Quaseem Weems. On the ensuing Yellow Jackets' possession Phillip Joseph found an opening under the basket for an easy bucket and then dropped in another layup to push the lead to eight with 6:31 remaining.

Under two minutes to play and down three, the Lightning made the cardinal sin of giving up an offensive rebound to Curlon McNeil after his teammate Joseph had missed two free throws. Joseph was then fouled on the play by Dwight Nangle and redeemed himself by knocking down a pair to extend the margin to 59-54.

City Tech would go to the line eight more times over the final 1:25, knocking down seven of them, which prevented the Lightning from ever overtaking the Yellow Jackets despite closing to 61-60 with 32 seconds left.

Garcia led the Lightning, who was playing without sharpshooter Samuel Batista, with 19 points while DeJesus added a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Lehman returns to action on Monday when it faces visiting Berkeley College.
