FREDERICKSBURG, Va.--The Hood College men's basketball team (13-10, 8-6 CAC) engineered the largest comeback in the program's eight-year history Wednesday night, rallying from a 17-point first-half deficit to overtake the University of Mary Washington Eagles (13-8, 7-6 CAC), 105-100 in overtime.

The victory assures the Blazers of a spot in the CAC playoffs. Hood leapfrogged the Eagles for fourth place in the CAC standings, and now sits one-half game behind third-place York College (Pa.).

First-year Cameron Cook pumped in a career-high 35 points, matching the fifth-best single-game scoring effort by a Hood men's basketball player all-time. He also tied his career-high with seven three-pointers.

The Blazers found themselves in a 50-33 hole with 1:20 left in the first half. A late layup by Reco Siler made it 50-35 UMW at the half.

Hood whittled the margin to just two within the first 3:53, capped by a Tyler Snoots layup. Cook tied the score at 61-61 on one of his trademark threes at the 13:19 mark. After a pair of Walt Smith free throws, Herb Bowen buried one from downtown to give the Blazers their first lead of the game, 64-63, at the 12:46 mark.

Hood would stretch its lead to as many as six on two occasions, the last of which came with 3:06 to go in regulation following a triple by Luis Cotto.

The Eagles outscored the Blazers 10-2 over the next 2:40 and clung to a 91-89 lead with 26 seconds to play after Smith hit 1-of-2 from the foul line. Cook hauled in the carom after the miss on the second attempt and Hood called timeout.

With seven seconds to play, Snoots muscled his way in for the game-tying layup, and the Eagles did not get another shot off, sending the game into overtime.

The Eagles and Blazers traded baskets to start the OT before Justin Stone scored six of Hood's next eight points to but the Blazers on top, 103-97, with 1:21 to go. UMW's E.J. Willis knocked down a three with nine seconds left to pull the hosts to within three, but Cook's two free throws on Hood's ensuing possession iced the game for Hood.

Cook, who is averaging 26 points per game and has drained 22 three-pointers in Hood's last four contests, moved into third place on Hood's single-season three-pointers chart with 61, a total that also leads the CAC.

Stone and Snoots both finished with double-doubles in the win. Stone tallied a season-high 20 points and grabbed a career-high 13 boards while Snoots notched his 12th career double-double with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Cotto set a season-high with six points, nailing two bombs, while Brenden Straughn finished with 13 points and five assists.

Willis led Mary Washington with 19 points while Smith recorded a double-double of 18 points and 11 assists.

Hood has another important CAC contest coming up Saturday at Marymount University. The contest will get underway at 4 p.m.
