Maritime Drops Home Contest, 72-59, To Sage

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2011) – The Maritime men's basketball team was defeated by conference-foe Sage, 72-59, Tuesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The loss drops the Privateer record to 8-13 overall (6-10 Skyline), while the Gators improve to 11-10 (9-8 Skyline).

The Privateers were led by senior Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High), who scored a game-high 20 points, while bringing down six rebounds. Junior Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Science & Engineering) recorded 12 points and four boards and senior Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) registered eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Maritime shot 35.8-percent from the field on the evening, while Sage recorded a 47.7-percent clip. The Gators held the advantage in rebounding, 72-59, and was able to thrive off of 36 points in the paint to the Privateers' 22.

For Sage, junior Dalton Austin-Michaud led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Matt Farbotko registered 15 points, while junior Pat Lanoue and senior Derick Faragon each scored 14 points. Lanoue also had eight rebounds.

Up next, the Privateers are slated to take on Skyline-opponent St. Joseph's on the road this Thursday, Feb. 10. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Golden Eagles' Danzi Center in Patchogue, N.Y.
