GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Ursinus College went 30-for-33 at the foul line as the Bears held off a Gettysburg second-half comeback to top the Bullets 64-59 in Bream Gymnasium Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's basketball action.

Senior center Andrew Powers scored a game-high 25 points for Gettysburg (11-10, 8-6 CC) and is now just 11 points shy of the school's all-time scoring record of 1,880 points set by Ron Warner '62 from 1959-62. He also grabbed six rebounds and went 11-for-12 at the foul line.

The Bullets, who committed 25 personal fouls and had two players foul out, entered the game in a four-way tie for second place in the conference standings and now find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth with four conference games remaining.

Sophomore center Jon Ward paced Ursinus (9-12, 6-8 CC), which overcame 21 turnovers, with 19 points before fouling out late while senior guard Matt Hilton posted 17 points. Freshman guard Jesse Krasna contributed 14 points and six rebounds while sophomore forward Kevin Janowski led all players with eight rebounds. Hilton and Krasna were each 9-for-10 at the foul line.

Sophomore guard Derek Brooks posted a strong all-around game for the Bullets, totaling eight points, six rebounds, and five assists off the bench. Senior guard Paul Crone also tallied eight points.

Ursinus, which snapped a four-game losing streak against Gettysburg, trailed just once in the opening period, when Powers converted a conventional 3-point play to make it 3-2. But the Bears answered with the next seven points, and Ursinus pushed its lead to nine (20-11) after a Hilton 3-pointer with 13:00 to go in the half.

The visitors extended their advantage to 14 (30-16) after a couple of Matt Donahue free throws, and Hilton went 1-for-2 at the foul line with two seconds left to give Ursinus a 33-23 halftime lead.

Gettysburg trailed by as much as 13 early in the second half but rallied midway through the stanza, using a 16-4 run that spanned 7:29 to take just their second lead of the day. Powers capped the surge when he came up with a steal and drove the court for an emphatic dunk, putting Gettysburg on top 49-48 with 6:31 left.

A late cold spell doomed the Bullets, however, as they failed to score until Crone hit back-to-back treys inside the final minute. By that point, Ursinus had run off 11 straight points, going 6-for-6 at the foul line during the stretch, to take a 59-49 lead with 56 seconds to go.

Crone's second 3-ball made it 61-55 with 29 seconds left, and the Bullets forced a turnover before Powers knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a four-point game with 20 ticks showing. Krasna then went 1-for-2 at the line, and after a Kevin Kennedy missed 3-pointer, the Bullets were forced to foul. Krasna's two free throws with six seconds left sealed the win for Ursinus.
