Baker Leads Diploamts Past Bears

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Mike Baker picked up game-highs with 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead No. 22 Franklin & Marshall to 69-61 victory over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening.  The double-double was the third in a row for Baker and his seventh of the season.

F&M (16-4, 11-2 CC) jumped out to a 16-1 lead 5:46 into the game before Ursinus battled back.  The Diplomats held a comfortable 17-point edge at 9:45, but the Bears (8-12, 5-8 CC) pulled to within seven, 38-31, going into break.

The teams traded buckets to start out the second half with F&M leading 48-41 on a Baker free throw with 14:09 remaining. Ursinus answered with a 6-0 run to come within a point, 48-47, at 10:51. F&M countered, outscoring the Bears 7-0, to take a 55-47 edge with 8:58 left in the contest.

Ursinus came within three points at 4:45, but F&M quickly responded leading by as much as 10 points after Steve Tolliver's dunk with 20 seconds remaining.

Hayk Gyokchyan, Georgio Milligan and Tolliver all finished with 12 points. Milligan added four assists, three steal and five boards. Gyokchyan pulled down nine boards and Tolliver went 3-for-7 from behind the arc.

Jon Ward paced the Bears with 18 points. Kevin Janowski added 14 and Matt Hilton finished with 10 points.

F&M held a commanding 41-24 advantage on the glass, including 24 on the defensive side, resulting in 15 second-chance points.

Coach Glenn Robinson is two victories away from becoming only the 13th coach in NCAA history to reach the 800-win plateau. Robinson is also two games shy from coaching in his 1,100th contest in his 40 years at F&M.
