Glenside, Pa. (Jan. 12, 2011) - Alvernia University (9-3, 4-0) shot 62 percent from the floor in the second half and turned a three-point halftime lead into a 62-51 win at Arcadia University (4-9, 0-4) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at Arcadia.

Alvernia senior Charlie Swiggett (Chester, Pa./Chester) led all scorers with 21 points going 9-for-10 from the free throw line.  The Knights did not attempt one free throw all night.  It's the second time the Crusaders have played an opponent without giving up a free throw attempt.  They did the same to Arcadia last year at home.

Alvernia had four of five starters reach double figures.  Tad Gillis (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) scored 11 and Cory Boone (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and Brian Nerney (Middletown, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) both scored 10.

Alvernia remains undefeated in conference play and finds itself alone at the top after Albright beat Widener Wednesday night.

The Crusaders made their lead comfortable for the first time Wednesday with an 11-2 run early in the second half that pushed the lead to 37-27.  Boone scored four and Swiggett scored five of Alvernia's 11.

Arcadia trimmed that lead down to three points twice, but another 10-3 run from the Crusaders put the guests up 10 points with four minutes to go.

Alvernia returns home to face Messiah College on Saturday.
