Five Saints Reach Double-Figures in 79-57 Win at Westminster

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - Five Saints scored in double-figures as the Thomas More College men's basketball team defeated Westminster College, 79-57, today (Saturday, January 29, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 11-8 overall and 7-2 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Titans fall to 4-16 overall and 1-9 in the PAC.

Thomas More raced out to a 6-0 lead with 18:00 to play in the first half when junior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) made a lay-up.  The Titans answered with an 11-2 run capped by a jumper by Rob Briggs to take an 11-8 lead with 11:57 to play in the opening half.  The Saints closed out the half on a 30-14 run to take a 38-25 lead at halftime when freshman point guard D'Carlo Hays (Louisville, Ky./Male) made a lay-up at the buzzer.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 6-2 run to extend the lead to 44-27 when junior shooting guard Todd Krohman (Florence, Ky./Boone County) made a three-pointer with 18:38 to play in the game.  The Titans answered with an 18-12 run to cut the lead to 56-45 with 10:55 to play in the game when Anthony Thomas made a lay-up.  The Saints responded with a 16-4 run capped by a lay-up by Stafford with 5:49 to play in the game to increase the lead to 72-49.  Westminster came back with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 72-53 with 4:55 to play in the game on a lay-up by Adam Carswell, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More closed out the game on a 7-4 run for the 79-57 victory. 

Reaching double-figures was senior shooting guard Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) with 15 points, senior shooting guard Aaron Miller (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) with 14 points, Krohman with 11 points and Stafford and freshman shooting guard Willis Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/Fairfield) with 10 points each.  Miller led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday (February 2) when they host PAC provisional member Geneva College at 7:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
