The Wheaton men's basketball team defeats Millikin 69-55 at home

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College Thunder men's basketball team picked up its second consecutive conference win on Wednesday night with a 69-55 victory at home against Millikin (1-16/0-7) Wheaton is now 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the CCIW. The Thunder will host North Central College on Saturday night at 8 PM in a key conference meeting.

The two teams were tied in a 16-16 deadlock with 9:30 remaining in the first half when three consecutive baskets by senior #Andrew Jahns# sparked a 10-0 run for the Thunder as Wheaton led 26-16 with 5:50 left before halftime. The hosts held a 30-23 advantage at the intermission. The Big Blue never got closer than a five-point deficit in the second half. Wheaton led 37-31 with 15:40 remaining in the game when the Thunder put together a 13-2 scoring run that gave the hosts a 50-33 lead and put Wheaton solidly in front of the Big Blue for the rest of the night.

Jahns led Wheaton with 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, including three three-pointers. The senior captain also scored registered seven assists, with three steals. #Jeremy Pflederer# contributed 16 points, making five shots from behind the three-point arc. #Tim McCrary# scored 14 points, with eight rebounds and he distributed five assists. Freshman #Tyler Peters# scored nine points and #Jon DeMoss# added seven points.

Kyle Taylor led Millikin with 23 points and four steals. Rodney Clark added 14 points for the guests.

Wheaton shot 57.1% (24-42) from the field, including 60.9% (14-23) in the second half. The Thunder made 44.4% (8-18) of its three-point field goal attempts and shot 65% (13-20) at the free throw line. Millikin tallied a 48.9% (22-45) field goal percentage, with 50% (4-8) from three-point range and 70% (7-10) at the free throw line. Each team grabbed 24 rebounds on the night and Millikin owned an 8-6 edge on the offensive glass.
