Miller and Stafford's Double-Doubles Lead Saints to a 67-56 Win at Grove City

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - Senior shooting guard Aaron Miller (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and junior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) each record a double-double to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 67-56 win over Grove City College today (Saturday, January 22, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Grove City Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 4-13 overall and 1-7 in the PAC.

Grove City took an early 9-4 lead when Brett Matson made a three-pointer with 15:16 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 14-6 run capped by a lay-up by senior center Robert Wilson (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) to take an 18-15 lead with 9:50 to play in the opening stanza.  The Wolverines came right back with a 14-9 run to take a 29-27 lead with 1:26 to play in the half when Kris Verderber made a lay-up.  The Saints closed out the half on a 5-2 run to take a 32-21 lead into halftime.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 21-2 run to take a 53-33 lead with 11:47 to play in the game when junior shooting guard Todd Krohman (Florence, Ky./Boone County) made a three-pointer.  The Wolverines answered with a 14-4 lead to cut the lead to 57-47 with 4:56 to play in the game when Matson made two-free throws.  That would be as close as Grove City would come as the Saints closed out the game on a 10-9 run for the 67-56 victory.

Miller finished the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Stafford finished with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  Stafford led the team in steals with five, while senior shooting guard Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) led the team in blocks with four.

The Saints are idle until next Saturday (January 29) when they travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College at 4 p.m.
