WASHINGTON – Behind its most balanced offensive showing of the season, CUA ran past Moravian on Saturday by a score of 105-58 inside the DuFour Center.  It marks the first time under Steve Howes in which the Cardinals have hit the century mark, and the 47-point margin of victory is CUA's largest since earning a 48-point win over Gallaudet in 1967. 

The win moves CUA to 12-6 overall and 3-4 in the Landmark Conference, while the Greyhounds drop to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in league action.

CUA did little wrong offensively on Saturday, shooting 61 percent in the opening 20 minutes and 51 percent for the game.  Three Cardinals hit for double figures, including senior R.J. Dixon who scored 22 points and now sits only 14 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Jason Banzhaf (18) and Andy Roell (11) also scored in double digits, and that pair led CUA in rebounding with six apiece.  The Cardinals handed out 21 assists on 36 field goals, outrebounded Moravian 44-27 and totaled 14 steals.

With the score 13-9 with 15:18 to go in the first half CUA ripped off a 12-0 run, which included a two-hand slam by sophomore Chris Kearney, to open up a comfortable 25-9 advantage.

Dixon's three with 10:15 to go before halftime gave the Cardinals their biggest lead up to that point at 30-11, while Banzhaf's bucket with 8:47 on the clock pushed CUA's advantage to 20 points.

A 9-0 run late in the half made it a 28-point game, 49-21, and the Cardinals eventually took a 27-point bulge into the locker room.

In the second half the offensive onslaught continued, with the Cardinals lead reaching 30 on a pair of free throws by Roell at the 18:03 mark.  A three-pointer by senior Brian Baker with 13:08 to play then made it a 35-point game and Derek Puhalski's trifecta with 4:17 to go pushed the lead to 39.

Howes emptied his bench for the final few minutes of play and the CUA reserves only increased the lead, as freshman Nate Lorence scored on a put-back with 3:13 remaining to make it a 41-point game. 

A little over a minute later, Cody Otto drove to the bucket and scored to up the lead to 46 points.  With 59 seconds on the clock Lorence got inside for yet another score to set the final margin at 47 and finish off CUA's first 100-point game since 2003 vs. Stevenson.

Moravian placed two players in double figures, including Kenny Gula with 11 and Garrett Johnson with 10.  The Greyhounds were forced into 29 turnovers by the CUA defense, and the Cardinals converted those miscues into 41 points.

CUA remains at home next weekend and will take on the Susquehanna Crusaders on Friday, January 28th inside the DuFour Center.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.  The next day the Cardinals will welcome Juniata to town for an afternoon showdown.  That same day, CUA will celebrate its 100th season of men's basketball with a large contingent of former greats expected to be in attendance.
