Another Friday Night Thriller, Baruch Defeats Brooklyn (62-60)

Chris Beauchampscored 22 points to lead the Baruch Bearcats to a 62-60 CUNYAC home victory over Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Friday night in the ARC Arena.

The exciting action featured 10 ties and five lead changes as the game was decided in the final minutes of play.

The Bearcats (11-8, 5-2 CUNYAC) led 61-56 with 2:21 remaining, but Darnell Cudjoe converted a pair of layups to cut the lead to 61-60 with 1:05 remaining.

Neither team was able to score on their next possession, but Brooklyn (8-8, 4-3 CUNYAC) did have the final shot opportunity with 26 seconds remaining. Baruch played strong interior defense and Ahmad Hemingway was forced to take and miss a 3-pointer with two seconds left.

Beauchamp grabbed the rebound and was quickly fouled with a two shot opportunity at the free throw line. He connected on one-of-two free throw attempts to help seal Baruch's second consecutive, two-point victory to stretch their winning streak to three games.

The Bearcats struggled shooting at 35 percent (21-60), but received 18 points from their bench, compared to only eight by Brooklyn, to record the important CUNYAC victory.

The visiting Bulldogs won the rebounding battle (44-41), but shot only 1-of-9 from three-point range in the second half to suffer the loss.

Sean Loftushad another solid evening with a double-double of 16 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots. Mickey Abbatiellofinished 10 points and two steals off the bench.

Cudjoe led Brooklyn College with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Baruch will return to action on Wednesday, January 26, with an 8:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn.
