16-2 Second Half Run Spurs Bridgewater State to 82-61 Win over Worcester

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Judah Jackson (Everett, Mass.) posted a double-double with a game-high 19 points to go along ten rebounds to lead the Bridgewater State University men's basketball team to an 82-61 victory over MASCAC foe Worcester State on Thursday night at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

The Bears improve to 10-5 on the season with their third straight win and 3-1 in the MASCAC.  Worcester drops to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Senior forward Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, Mass.) also finished with a double as he tallied 11 points and ten assists as well as five rebounds and five steals.  Junior guard Corey Ryser (Tewksbury, Mass.) sparked the Bears off the bench with 16 points on 8 of 11 shooting to go along with three assists.  Senior guard Corey Connor (Providence, R.I.) added 17 points and four assists as he knocked down three three-pointers.

Bridgewater held a 41-31 lead at the half.  After Worcester cut the deficit to three points with a 10-3 run early in the second stanza, the Bears responded with a 16-2 run, highlighted by eight points from Ryser, to put the game well out of reach.

Junior forward Clayton Timas (New Bedford, Mass.) paced the Lancers with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Senior forward Dave Douillette (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards, while junior guard Frank Stephenson (Fall River, Mass.) added 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.  Freshman forward Mike Gittens (Uncasville, Conn.) also came off the bench to score ten points on 4 of 5 shooting.

Bridgewater shot 45% (33-74) for the game and turned the ball over just ten times.  The Bears forced 25 turnovers and got 26 points off the bench opposed to just 12 points from the Worcester reserves.  The Lancers held a 48-35 rebounding advantage including a 20-15 edge on the offensive glass, but shot just 38% (24-63) from the floor.

The Bears will travel to Salem State on Saturday for a key MASCAC game with the Vikings.  Tip-off of slated for 3:00 PM.  Worcester hosts Salem next Tuesday at 8:00 PM.
