Diplomats Dodge Dickinson; McNally All-Time Leading Scorer

CARLISLE. Pa. – Georgio Milligan drained two free throws with four seconds remaining in overtime as Franklin & Marshall defeated Dickinson 69-68 in Centennial Conference (CC) action.  James McNally scored a team-high 17 points and became F&M's all-time scoring leader.

McNally entered the contest two points shy of Donnie Marsh's 32-year-old record. Marsh '79 tallied 1,695 points over 110 games during his four years in Lancaster.  McNally reset the mark in 104 contests with 1,711 points with nine games remaining in the regular season.

The first two minutes of overtime remained scoreless before Milligan scored at 2:50 to give F&M (12-4, 7-2 CC) a 63-61 lead.  Dickinson (7-9, 5-4 CC) answered on its next possession before Steve Tolliver hit two from the stripe to maintain the Diplomats' advantage. The teams traded buckets down the stretch, but the Red Devils went up a point with 17 ticks on the clock. Milligan was fouled on the next possession, setting up his game-winning shots.

F&M held a comfortable eight-point, 33-25, edge three minutes into the second half. The Red Devils answered with a 12-4 run spanning five minutes to tie the game at 37 with 12:42 remaining in the half.  The Diplomats countered, outscoring Dickinson 14-7 to lead 51-44 at 8:46.

Brandon Beckford's trey at 6:26 gave the Diplomats a 56-51 advantage. Brian Gerney hit a three for the Red Devils to tie the contest at 58 with 1:45 left in the second. Hayk Gyokchyan put F&M up one, before another three-pointer gave Dickinson a one-point, 61-60, lead with 51 seconds on the clock. Milligan hit the back end of his free throws to tie game with 32 second left and a Dickinson miss with a second remaining sent the game into overtime.

Milligan finished with 12 points and four assists. Beckford and Tolliver each netted nine and Gyokchyan ended with eight points. Mike Baker pulled down a team-high 10 boards and added seven points.

Matt Dolan scored a game-high 18 points for the Red Devils. Gerney added 14 on 6-for-9 shooting.

F&M held a slight 38-36 advantage on the glass, but were outshot 44.8% to 37.7% from the floor.

The Diplomats return home on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. against McDaniel.
