FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (9-7, 5-3 CAC) held the University of Mary Washington Eagles (11-5, 5-3 CAC) to their lowest scoring total of the season in securing a 65-56 Capital Athletic Conference victory Wednesday evening at the Odom Fitness Center.

The Blazers, who moved into a tie for fourth place in the CAC, improved to 6-1 at home on the season. Sophomore Justin Stone led all scorers with 13 points while junior Brenden Straughn added 11 and first-year Cameron Cook chipped in 10.

After six ties and seven lead changes in the second half, the Blazers took the lead for good, 52-51, on a putback by Cook at the 4:18 mark. Hood extended that lead to 58-52 1:06 later on four straight free throws by Stone and Reco Siler, and the Eagles made just one more field goal the rest of the game.

Mary Washington came into the game averaging more than 83 points per game, but the Blazers held the Eagles under 60 points for the first time since Feb. 21, 2010 against St. Mary's College (Md.). The Blazers also nailed down their fourth straight win in the series with the Eagles.

Hood connected on 11-of-13 from the foul line in the second half and limited the Eagles to 10-of-29 from the floor.

Senior Tyler Snoots grabbed 12 boards and tallied nine points while classmate Reco Siler contributed six points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals off the bench. Junior LaVar Rich pulled down a career-high five boards in the win.

Tad Dickman (12 points, 10 rebounds) and J.R. Gray (10 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles for UMW in defeat.

Hood next travels to Wesley College Saturday for a 4 p.m. CAC contest. Wesley is tied with St. Mary's for first place in the conference.
