Balanced Scoring Lifts Oswego State Over Potsdam 73-60

Three players reached double-figures to lead a balanced offensive attack for the Oswego State men's basketball team as it defeated Potsdam, 73-60, in Oswego on Friday night.  Ryan Sheridan led the way for the Lakers with 19 points, while Chad Burridge and Conor Monaghan contributed 12 points each.  Oswego State moved to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference with the victory, while the Bears fell to 4-8 overall and 3-2 in the league.

The Lakers capitalized on 13 Potsdam turnovers, converting them into 14 points in the first half.  Oswego State also drilled five three-pointers in the stanza en route to a 37-25 lead at intermission.  During the frame, Sheridan carried a large portion of the offensive load as he scored 11 of his 19 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Potsdam came out with increased defensive pressure and offensive execution in the second half, as the Bears cut their deficit to six points at 40-34 with 17:16 left to play after a trey by Skip Schwartz.  However, the Lakers responded with a 14-4 run to build a 16-point advantage that was capped off by a dunk by Burridge after Sheridan tossed up an alley-oop pass to make the score 54-38.  The Oswego State lead never dipped below 12 points from that point forward, as the Lakers cruised to the 73-60 win.

In addition to his 12 points, Burridge registered 11 rebounds for his third straight double-double.  Head coach Adam Stockwell also received bench contributions from Chris Gilkes and Hayden Ward, who each poured in eight points, while Ward also pulled down 10 rebounds.  Potsdam was paced by 12 points and nine boards from Curtis Pierce.

The Lakers improved their performance at the free-throw line by going 10-of-13 (76.9 percent), finished at 42.0 percent from the field on 29-of 69 shooting, and owned a 42-31 advantage on the glass.  The Bears went 40.9 percent (18-of-44) from the floor, including 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from three-point range.

Oswego State hosts Plattsburgh on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
