Dolphins Ground Raptors, Collect Second Straight Victory

Riverdale, N.Y. – After dropping two straight games coming out of the break, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team has rebounded for its second straight victory after Tuesday nights 78-49 win over league rival Bard. Four Dolphins scored in double-figures led by Shaquille Cunningham's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 15 points.

The Dolphins trailed just once in the game after Frank Stortini nailed a three pointer to push the Raptors in front 3-2 with just under 18 minutes left in the first half. After Bard got even at 5-5 the Dolphins used a 16-0 run to open a 21-5 lead with 12:10 left in the frame.

Mount Saint Vincent would hold Bard to just 18 first half points on Tuesday as the Raptors shot just 29.2-percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. The Dolphins went on to shoot better then 43-percent and Cunningham led all scorers at halftime with 11 points.

Bard would not be able to get its deficit under 21 points in the second half and Mount Saint Vincent pulled in front by as many as 39 points after one of Stephen Oliver's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three treys with just under five minutes left in the tilt.

Overall on the night Mount Saint Vincent shot 43.5-percent from the field and knocked down nine three pointers. Cunningham went 6-for-9 from the floor in the game and also grabbed four rebounds and handed out a game-high five assists.

Oliver came off the bench on Tuesday and poured in a career-high 11 points after going 3-for-5 from behind the arc. He also collected two steals and a pair of rebounds. Freshman Chris Bonaventura (Staten Island, N.Y.) also netted a career-high with 10 points to go along with three assists.

Sophomore George Najdjieff (Miami, Fla.) continued his strong recent play with 11 points and added nine rebounds and a block. Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) also hauled in nine rebounds and chipped in with eight points.

Mount Saint Vincent also dominated on the glass against the Raptors, holding a 47-29 advantage. The Dolphins grabbed 21 offensive boards in the game and finished with 19 second chance points.

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 12-2 overall on the season, 7-2 against Skyline opponents and a perfect 6-0 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. The Dolphins will look to maintain their recent momentum on Thursday when they host St. Joseph's-L.I. Tip-off at is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
