Montclair, NJ (1/10/11) – Junior forward Elgin Brown (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Ramapo College to a 75-66 road victory over Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest Monday night at the Panzer Athletic Center.

In a game filled with a combined 54 fouls and 67 free-throw attempts, Ramapo (12-3, 3-0 NJAC) opened up the game with a run over the final minute of the first half and used another string in the second half to ice the game.

The game was close at the start with seven ties over the first 10 minutes of the opening period. Ramapo, which remained undefeated in Conference play in posting its third straight win, got help from Brown, who posted 15 of his points and eight of his rebound in the half. The Roadrunners led 34-31 with 1:04 left in the half before outcoring Montclair State 7-1 to take a 41-33 advantage into the intermission. Junior guard Ahmad Hassan (Edgewater, N.J./Leonia) scored six of his 12 points in the run for Ramapo.

Montclair State (12-4, 2-2), which suffered its second straight loss for the first time this season, made a comeback attempt in the second half behind junior forward Andrew August (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan), who scored a team-high 22 points.  Trailing 51-39 with 11:13 to play, August scored nine points as the Red Hawks cut the deficit to just four at 54-50 with 8:25 left. But that would be as close as Montclair State would get.

Ramapo then went on a 17-6 run, including seven points by Brown, to open its biggest margin of the game at 71-56 with 4:31. Junior forward-center LaQuan Peterkin (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy), added 14 points for the Roardrunners.

Senior guard Rodney Freeney (Piscataway, N,.J./Piscataway) and senior forward Sean Young (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) each contributed 10 points for Montclair State. Senior forward Tyrone Prewitt (Trenton, N.J. / Trenton) tied for game-high honors with 11 rebounds.

Ramapo visits Rutgers-Newark in conference play on Wednesday while Montclair State will travels to Rowan for a NJAC matchup on Saturday.
