SPOKANE, Wash. -- David Riley and Jack Loofburrow each nailed six three-pointers to lead fourth-ranked Whitworth to a 93-58 win over visiting Pacific Lutheran in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Friday night at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

The Pirates hit 17 three-pointers as a team on the way toward improving to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the NWC. The Lutes saw their five-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 6-5, 1-2.

The game was never in doubt as Whitworth jumped to a quick 10-2 lead after Riley hit the game's first shot and Loofburrow followed with a pair of three-pointers. By the time Felix Friedt scored inside the Pirates had taken a 19-4 lead just over six minutes into the game. PLU scored five straight, including a three by Andrew Ernest, but that is as close as the Lutes would get.

Whitworth was ahead 52-28 at halftime after making 59% (19-32) from the field and the same percentage (10-17) from three-point range. Riley had 19 of his game-high 26 points in the first period, making four of his treys and 7-10 shots overall.

The Pirates steadily pulled away in the second half, taking their largest lead of the game (86-45) after Friedt, a 6-8 post from Germany, hit the first three-pointer of his career as the shot clock wound down with just under six minutes to go.

The only drama of the second half came as Whitworth neared the school record for team three-pointers in a game. The Pirates finished one short of the 18 they made against Whittier earlier this season, but still hit 57% (17-30) from beyond the arc in the contest.

Riley's 26 points ties his season high. Loofburrow finished with 21 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Michael Taylor (Brewster, Wash.) had 14 points and led the Bucs with seven assists. Friedt totaled 13 points and seven boards.

PLU got 11 points each from James Conti and Curtis Trondsen. Kai Hoyt led the Lutes with six rebounds.

Whitworth has a chance to tie the school record for a perfect start to a season when the Pirates host Puget Sound on Saturday.
