Stabach Shines Again for Mount

BROOKYLN, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team earned their first road win of the season with a decisive victory over Skyline Conference opponent, NYU-Poly. The Knights defeated the Fighting Blue Jays by a score of 93-53 for their eighth win of the season. In Skyline Conference play, the Knights are now 6-1, while the Blue Jays drop to 0-7 in conference play and 0-10 overall.

The Mount led by twelve going into the locker room, holding a 40-28 lead. After halftime the Knights broke open the game, outscoring NYU-Poly, 53-25. Freshman Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) continued his impressive rookie season, leading the Knights with 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Both senior Tim Morris (Greenwich, N.Y.) and freshman Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.) contributed double-digit scoring efforts with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Morris added six rebounds, while Howell shot 3-of-3 from downtown to account for nine of his 10 points. The rebounding effort was led by junior Carlos Valdez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) who finished the night with nine rebounds. Freshman Joe Henain (Benesuef, Egypt) grabbed eight rebounds for the Mount.

Defense has suddenly become a strong point for the Knights as they scored 24 points off 20 NYU-Poly turnovers. The Blue Jays shot 40.8-percent from the field, while the Mount connected at a torrid 54.0-percent.

Senior Jason Buckner (Littleton, Colo.) led the Blue Jays with 15 points.

The Knights now look forward to a Skyline Conference contest against the Farmingdale State College Rams. The teams tip off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Kaplan Center.
